Facial lines
are caused by the repeated use of the underlying facial muscles, which
over time results in a permanent crease or wrinkle. The reduction of these wrinkles creates a fresher more youthful appearance, without
surgery. In order to remove, relax or just soften wrinkles from your forehead and around the eyes, nose and mouth, a muscle relaxant is injected. This is often incorrectly generally referred to as Botox® - but this is actually a brand name - a bit like Hoover® and vacuum cleaners. The active ingredient is actually Botulinum Toxin Type A. At be.U the brands we prefer to use are Bocouture® and Xeomin®. The effects are usually noticeable from 3-14 days after treatment, and can last up to 4-5 months in most cases. Where
the relaxant is injected it reduces the facial movements which result
in wrinkling. This gives a smoother more rested appearance to the
face, and thus a fresher more youthful look.
It
is most commonly performed on the upper face, with the most common
areas treated being the horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines
between the eyebrows and crows feet (or laughter lines) around the eyes.
